Welcome to our new link missionaries Peter and Vicki Butcher and their four children, Thomas (9), Charis (7), Alex (5) and Zoe (3).

After a year of training at the Birmingham International Centre in Birmingham and then months of waiting, they left England in November 2005 for a country they’ve never visited and a culture very different from their own.

Peter was the minister of Sheep Street Baptist Church at Devizes for 7 years, Vicki a  nursery school teacher. Together they hope to plant a church in one of the fast- growing slums surrounding the city.

With over 80% of Ecuador’s population living on less than £1 a day, widespread unemployment, limited healthcare and education, there are many challenges and opportunities to have an impact upon the lives of people.

One of the ways Peter and Vicki plan on reaching the needy community is by starting a Pre-School Education Programme (PEPE) in the church. The programme will give free pre-school education to those who would otherwise struggle to get on the education ladder- and education is one of the proven ways of helping to end poverty

Their commitment to honour the call of God on their lives has meant they have sold up everything- everything they own has been reduced to what they can take on the plane to Ecuador.

Their first impressions after considerable research (which means they asked the children!) were: -

Fresh fruit in abundance

Climate (nice and hot)

A real sense of purpose

They ask our prayers for: -

Patience to live a day at a time as they grow to understand more and more of a new culture

They will adjust to their new surroundings and will soon feel completely settled at home

Wisdom as they try to find out exactly where God wants to use them.
