Dear Friends

As we approach the summer months, people take time to rest, enjoy a holiday or even take stock of their lives- for Christians this may include a spiritual check up.

What is spirituality?  what does it mean to you?  For me spirituality is about the way we develop and work out our relationship with God in the real world.  The source of spirituality is Jesus and our lives should reflect the source.  we should be signposts- pointing people to the source- to Jesus.

In order to do that we need to ask ourselves how we are doing- how strong is my life spiritually?  Then we need to think how we can develop a greater sense of spirituality- what do I need to do to have a better relationship with God and be an effective witness for him?  there are of course  a number of ways we can do this.

Firstly, we need to be open to God in our everyday lives and keep in step with the Holy spirit.  A fire requires oxygen to burn- it it's cut off it dies.  The Holy Spirit is our oxygen supply.

Secondly, taking the analogy of fire again- it also requires fuel to keep it burning and so we also need to be regularly fuelled by reading and studying God's word, talking to him in prayer and coming to Church to share fellowship together where we can strengthen and encourage one another.

Finally, if we don't practice we can easily 'cool off'. I used to swim six times a week. I was slim, fit and extremely good- but now, although I can swim fairly well, because I don't practice I'm never going to be as good as I was , and I think it's the same in our spiritual lives.  If we don't put into practice those things I mentioned above, we can easily 'cool off'.

So. as we enjoy the bright sunny days and warm evenings, maybe its time for you to do a spiritual MOT. Cars require one after three years - so why not us.

Every blessing

Paul
